- Abstract
Studies indicate that refugee young people are subject to experiences that place them at a distinct disadvantage compared with other young people. These include the survival of torture and trauma, the experience of long periods of disrupted schooling, and resettlement within fragmented family units. These experiences impact on adolescent development and the transition to independence and require specialised responses from the community.
