Conceptual Model Groups make up the overall structure of the Records in Context - Conceptual Model. These groups are: Primary Entities, Supporting Entities, Attributes and Relations.

Primary Entities
Primary Entities are the conceptual and physical entities that are considered essential in describing records. In the Records in Context - Conceptual Model, 15 entities were identified as essential for record description. The top-level Primary Entities are Record Resource, Agent, and Activity. The model defines each of these entities, elaborates on their attributes, and outlines the relations between them. These entities are:

Supporting Entities
Supporting Entities are entities used in the description of the Primary Entities. Like the Primary Entities, the Supporting Entities have attributes that characterise and distinguish each instance of the entity as a distinct concept or thing. Supporting Entities are those bits of information that we use to qualify, indentify, particularise, classify and categorize both entities and their relations.

In the Records in Context - Conceptual Model, 16 Supporting Entities were identified as useful for archival description. These Supporting Entities are grouped into four categories (Appellation Entities; Classification Entities; Dates and Places; and Concept or Thing). The model defines each of these entities, elaborates on their attributes, and outlines the relations between them. These entities are:
