Domain Experiences of Racism
Summary
Some people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds are likely to have experienced racism and discrimination as a part of their daily life in Australia. Racism and racist behaviour can be either direct and overt or indirect and covert. The experience of racism and discrimination is a significant stress factor for those people who are subject to it, and research shows that it contributes to a feeling of insecurity and a view of the dominant social environment as threatening and hostile (Selvamanickam et al 2001).
