Summary
This question asks participants about their reason(s) for coming to Australia. The research sought to determine how respondents' reasons for migration influenced their social, economic and cultural outcomes. Respondents who came to Australia with their families were asked about their family's reasons for migration.
Details
Response Options: There were 8 response options for this question: parent/family's work, parent/family's education, my work, my education, to be with my family/partner, humanitarian (refugee/asylum seeker), and unsure. There was also a 'other (please specify)' option to allow answers beyond the available response options.
Response: 1,471 respondents answered this question.
Results: Just over half of respondents said they came to Australia for their parents' or family's work (38.1%) or education (18.4%). About one-quarter (25.7%) came to Australia for their own education. Just over one-quarter (27.4%) came to Australia for humanitarian reasons.
