Domain Housing
Summary
Examining living arrangements or household composition of different CALD youth population groups allows us to understand how CALD youth live compared to their non-CALD counterparts. For newly arrived young people barriers such as lack of social capital or complex or competitive housing markets can complicate their access to long term appropriate housing. This is more important for some groups of CALD youth with young people from refugee backgrounds six to ten times more likely to be at risk of homelessness than Australian-born young people (Lawson and Dutertre 2010). This domain indicator sheds some light on the housing experiences and needs of all CALD youth.
