Summary

Ethnic communities can form important sites of belonging and attachment for young people. Such belonging should not be assumed, as one's relationship to his or her ethnic community can also give rise to tension or cultural conflict. Expressions of ethnic community belonging can include participation in cultural heritage and maintenance activities, preserving diasporic connections, or involvement in local, place-based practices of community-making and organising.
