Summary

Cultural indicators contribute to multicultural young people's status because they measure experiences of belonging, discrimination and their capacity to participate in a range of cultural spaces. Such capacities depend on having access to knowledge and cultural resources that can make one an active and equal member of the community. Culture refers to the practices of communication and meaning-making that enable people to construct individual and collective identities, as well as navigate difference. These practices can include both contemporary and traditional cultural forms such as the arts or digital media, heritage or language. Multicultural youth are well positioned to be culturally mobile and facilitate cross-cultural understanding.
